Boxing Day saw us all having brisk refreshing walks on the beach at Exmouth or up on Exmoor.
The stock were to feed, and that gave a chance for more tractor driving lessons for young cousins! A lunchtime snack was perfect cheeses. Once again we knew they would be perfect, because they came from Elise and Gary at Country Cheeses www.countrycheeses.co.uk. We have had complete faith in their skill as artisan cheesemongers for many years now. By late afternoon, the wood oven was in action again, and this time to bake one of our cooked hams, with plenty of  our honey glaze to spoon over. The result was as mouth-watering as it was gorgeous to look at!It always conjures up visions of our saddleback pigs in the cider apple orchards - foraging for windfalls in the dappled sunlight.  They grow slowly and the ham was meltingly soft and full of the moist deliciousness. .. . . with a crispy coating - there were many murmurs of complete satisfaction around the big table. Really good food makes a really special occasion.
We have had many very positive comments about our turkeys, hams, beef and ducks and geese. They are always very welcome and give us all a real boost. Â Many of our customers and their guests have declared the Pipers Farm ham or turkey or ribs of beef as the best they have ever eaten. Â For all of us in the Pipers Farm team, that is special indeed.

Having got the news about our Ribs of Beef we set off for The House of Commons for "The Food and Farming Industry Awards".
Out of a field of 56 products placed before a panel of 6 judges for a blind tasting our Red Ruby Entrecote Steak was the Winner of The Taste of Excellence Award!
It was a great experience to be in The House of Commons again, and winning made it unforgettable!
The last time we were there we were campaigning against completely unsustainable charges for BSE controls in small abattoirs. The fact that we won that battle means that John and Richard Coles are still doing an excellent job of killing our cattle, sheep and pigs each week. Theirs is a genuine artisan operation and a vital link in our chain of producing meat that is sensational to eat!
