Now in their 18th year the 2011 Great Taste Awards have been the biggest yet, with 7481 products entered this time. It took 350 experts 34 days to blind taste all the entries and decide which entries would achieve the coveted one, two and three star gold awards. After waiting with baited breath, the results have been announced and we are delighted to reveal that we've won five awards! We really think our products taste fantastic but it's great for the quality to be recognised on a national level and by judges described as having the most rigorous judging standards in the UK!

Top of the list was our Oven-Ready Chicken which won a brilliant Two Star Gold Award. Judges described it as a fantastic bird with a lovely flavour that melted in the mouth. Before any products were awarded two stars, at least 25 experts needed to reach unanimous agreement that the entry was absolutely stunning. So we are justifiably proud of this achievement!

Our Unsmoked Saddleback Ham, Red Ruby Sirloin Steak and Saddleback Pork Tenderloin all won One Star Gold Awards, with the judges impressed by the pork's depth of flavour. Our Ragu Bolognese ready meal also won a One Star Gold Award, being described as having a good flavour and aroma with moist and tender meat and vegetables.

Peter was very pleased, saying “We take great care in producing everything ourselves with the ultimate goal of delivering an absolute eating sensation. We've spent the last 20 years perfecting every detail and so nothing is more satisfying to us then to know that we have really delivered on taste. Recognition like this from such a respected organisation is a very exciting reward for everyone who is part of the Pipers Farm team.”

It has certainly got a lot colder over the last couple of weeks, but one group who don't seem to mind at all are the Saddleback Pigs. They have been busy harvesting the fallen cider apples in the orchard, and causing a right mess in the fields above the house!

They also had a day out at The Duchy School in Bradninch. Peter & Henri took a couple along for the children to meet - their current half term project is on Food & Farming and so hopefully they learnt a lot too!

Fly, the young puppy, was keen not to miss out on the fun either - she just loves playing in the puddles at the moment - she has taken particularly to attempting to eat water!
